Hey There ....

Welcome!

This is a site where I highlight the music that I enjoy and hopefully, you will get some enjoyment from it too. My intention is to provide new and interesting songs, rarities (such as B-sides) from yesteryear, as well as other tracks that were hits (and sometimes not) - I guess that means anything at all really!

Of course, it's just another music blog, so that formula may change from time to time (no apologies offered for that). You might not like everything that I've posted, but you're bound to like something! It's also possible that I may just make the odd factual mistake, so please let me know if you happen to spot any such event & I'll fix it pronto.

If you have any sort of copyright issues with any of the material on this site, please advise me by email and it'll vanish (it's as simple as that).

Due to certain DivShare changes, you may notice that some of their earlier download links are not working - if you're a blog member, let me know about any of those links and I'll attend to them immediately. Blog members will be also be rewarded from time to time with album downloads!!

Groove - "Relax Me"

Here’s a treat for all of those old Aussie rockers who have probably wondered if they’d ever hear this Melbourne band again. The band was the Peter Williams led, The Groove, who had a string of Australian hits in the late 60’s and they demonstrated a brilliant mixture of rock, pop and soul. They were put together by the fellow who put the Twilights on the Australian map. Williams was actually a Kiwi, but as I pointed out in a number of previous posts, if you make it in this country, then we claim you as our own (most Kiwis want to live here anyway).

The band gathered a huge following and were absolutely huge in the Australian club scene and every music show (read that as Uptight) featured the band often.

For a band that had so many hits, they strangely released only the one LP and it remains one of my real little treasures.

In 1968, The Groove won the now defunct Hoadley’s Battle Of The Sounds and they undertook a National tour before heading over to England, which had been the first prize in the competition. Unfortunately, their trip to England failed to see them hit the big time, as had been the case with many previous Australian bands trying to break into that market. In England, The Groove actually managed to release one overseas single, which failed, and they then metamorphosed into Eureka Stockade. They released one further single under their new name before the band split in 1970.

Oh well – on to the music. Here are The Groove with three of their Australian hits, “Relax Me,” “Simon Says,”  and "You Are The One I Love."

  2. Hi Mandy .... I can't recall exactly where it was that I found this album, but yes - they had just the one album release and it's a real rarity these days. It's never been released on cd, but I have cleaned up the vinyl pretty well and it's now a little piece of history that sits in my collection. Send me an email (link is under my profile).
